AOL Inc. has dialed up Leigh Freund, a veteran lawyer at the Internet and media company, to serve as its chief lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
Freund, who started at AOL in 2004, has agreed to serve as the company's head of global public policy, stepping down from her post as vice president and chief counsel in charge of its advertising legal team, AOL general counsel Julie Jacobs announced Friday. She succeeds Tekedra Mawakana, who moved to Yahoo! Inc. in April to lead the company's global public policy team after 13 years at AOL.
"I have big shoes to fill with my predecessor," Freund said.
