Gun Control: The White House is considering doing more than just putting a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition in place again, The Washington Post reports. "They are very clearly committed to looking at this issue comprehensively," said Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, who has been involved in the discussions. The proposals under consideration, he added, are "a deeper exploration than just the assault-weapons ban."
Defense Secretary: President Barack Obama has picked former Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) to be the next defense secretary, The New York Times reports. "I think this is a president right now who has drunk the tea," Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said on "Fox News Sunday." "He is feeling very good about himself; he is feeling like there can be no opposition to his position. And so, it doesn’t seem — he doesn't seem terribly concerned that there's not a lot of support for Chuck Hagel in the Senate."
Hostess Sale: Hostess Brands Inc., the maker of Wonder Bread and Twinkies, is in talks with Flowers Foods Inc. and Grupo Bimbo SAB to sell off its bread business, The Wall Street Journal reports.
