Drinker Biddle & Reath announced yesterday the addition of AARP lobbyist Anna Howard to its health care advocacy team in Washington.
As a director of the Medicare reimbursement and health policy team in the firm's government and regulatory affairs practice, Howard will join a lobbying team with a long list of clients from the health care industry. For more than a decade, she worked to build the AARP's advocacy operations, most recently as a senior legislative representative in the federal affairs health and long-term care team.
In an interview Tuesday, Howard described her work at the AARP as that of an issue expert. She said the move was spurred by the desire to "broaden her knowledge" and look at health care issues from a different perspective than that of the AARP's in-house lobbying arm.
"This afforded me the perfect opportunity to do that," she said, adding that she is looking forward to working with a firm that has "such a great reputation and some amazing clients."
Congressional records show that Drinker Biddle is lobbying for a number of clients from the health care industry, including the American Dental Association, the Oncology Nursing Society and the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
“Anna’s arrival allows us to provide clients with additional support and expertise in the health policy regulatory sphere, especially Medicare,” said the firm's managing government relations director, Ilisa Paul, in a statement.
