A former congressman from Texas joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in its public law and policy practice, the law firm announced Wednesday.
Former Rep. Tom Loeffler (R) will serve as a partner in the firm's Washington and San Antonio offices. He previously was co-chairman of GrayLoeffler, a Washington-based lobby shop.
Loeffler, who served in the House from 1979 to 1987, said in an interview that he is excited to come to Akin.
“I have been a very fond admirer of this law firm throughout my professional career,” he said.
At GrayLoeffler, the former congressman represented clients on a wide array of matters, including financial services, health care, energy, defense and environmental issues. Loeffler this year lobbied for companies that include Exelon Corp., McDonald’s Corp. and General Motors Co., according to congressional records.
“Tom has been providing excellent policy advice and advocacy to business clients for decades,” Smith Davis, the firm’s public law and policy practice head, said in a statement.
