The District of Columbia's top two judges on Oct. 24 announced the launch of the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll, as part with the American Bar Association’s national pro bono program.
“The D.C. Courts are mindful of the challenges faced by pro se litigants attempting to navigate our court system without counsel,” said D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Eric Washington and D.C. Superior Court Chief Judge Lee Satterfield, according to a D.C. courts press release.
Supported by the D.C. Access to Justice Commission and the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program, the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll will honor attorneys in the District of Columbia with at least 50 hours of pro bono service, according to a D.C. courts press release. Those who provide at least 100 hours of pro bono service will be recognized on the “High Honor Roll.”
“These attorneys are helping to fill a troubling justice gap,” said Peter Edelman, D.C. Access to Justice Commission chair, according to the release. “Their work provides critical interventions in individual cases and also enhances the administration of justice more generally.”
To be included in the honor roll, applicants must submit a declaration to the court stating they provided 50 or more hours of pro bono work in calendar year 2011, by Jan. 31, 2012. For further information, visit www.probono.net/dc/honor-roll.
