Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is apparently continuing with her plan to speak in California tomorrow after being hastily evacuated along with 178 other passengers from a United Airlines flight at Dulles International Airport in Virginia earlier today.
The pilot ordered the evacuation after detecting something wrong with the engines before it took off. Emergency chutes were deployed. Ginsburg was "safely evacuated" on one of the chutes, said Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg. Media reports indicated that several passengers received minor injuries.
Ginsburg, 78, was heading to San Francisco for a scheduled appearance at University of California Hastings College of the Law on Thursday. The sold-out event features Ginsburg in a conversation with professor Joan Williams, an expert on gender bias in academia and on the work-life balance.
