White & Case today announced Matthew Miner joined the firm’s Washington office as a partner in its white collar practice.
Miner previously worked in the U.S. Senate, where he served as minority staff director on the Committee on the Judiciary and counsel on the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. He handled criminal law and national security legislation, including the Fair Sentencing Act, reauthorization of the Patriot Act and efforts to revise the honest services statute after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Skilling v. United States.
Miner helped manage the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominees Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, as well as the nomination of U.S. Attorney General candidate Eric Holder Jr.
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) paid tribute to Miner in a Senate floor speech on April 14, calling him “one of the most trusted members of my staff…Matt has served his country well, advanced the rule of law, and been a tremendous asset to me as I seek to fulfill my duty to the people of this country. I am happy for him in this new position and wish him Godspeed,” Sessions said.
“Matt’s background in Washington and as a former prosecutor brings new capability and depth to our white collar practice,” said David Hille, head of White & Case’s disputes practice in the Americas, in a written statement. “In the highly regulated business community in the United States, especially in banking, telecommunications, energy and health care, Matt will be a key resource for clients with complex enforcement and legislative issues.”
