Phillip Marchesiello, who was until recently a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, has joined Wilkinson Barker Knauer as a partner.
Marchesiello’s practice focuses on domestic and international communications matters related to broadcast, telecommunications, multichannel video programming distribution, satellite, wireless and advanced technology companies. He advises clients on issues related to licensing, rulemakings, regulatory compliance, acquisitions and commercial transactions.
He also advises financial industry companies, including investment banks and hedge and private equity funds, on investments in, and financing of, communications enterprises.
Among the clients he has done work for are Zeus Holdings Ltd.; TPG Inc.; and GS Capital Partners, Goldman Sachs' private equity arm. Marchesiello represented the latter two clients as part of a team of Akin lawyers providing regulatory counsel on TPG and GS Capital Partners’ acquisition of Alltel Corp.
In a prepared statement, Bryan Tramont, managing partner of Wilkinson Barker Knauer, said, “ Phil is a rising star in the communications bar and has been a tremendous friend to many of us for many years. He will be a great fit here, and we look forward to his contributions to the continued growth of the firm.” Marchesiello could not be reached for immediate comment.
For Wilkinson Barker Knauer, the addition of Marchesiello brings the number of lawyers at the Washington-based communications and technology boutique to 45. In 2010, the firm made several lateral hires, including the addition of a six-lawyer communications team from Morrison & Foerster. That deal included the chair of MoFo’s communications practice, Cheryl Tritt.
