Word from Hollywood today is that production of the star-crossed NBC show "Outlaw," starring Jimmy Smits as a former Supreme Court justice, has been suspended. The remaining episodes of the show, in which the former conservative justice goes into private practice to represent the underdog, will be aired, but no new ones will be made unless there's a surprise uptick in viewership.
The show, a product of Conan O'Brien's production company, did not attract enough viewers to keep it going, according to this Entertainment Weekly report. Press notices like ours were almost universally negative -- absurd plots, bad acting, the works -- but as usual, it was the low ratings that have made the show an early casualty of the new TV season.
Unfortunately like just about every new show on network television this season, "Outlaw" was simply dreadful. At least some shows with poor writing, poor acting, and ridiculous plots can be interesting (or at least fun), but "Outlaw" has been incredibly boring on top of its objectively low quality. Kind of like what's happened to the RepublicanTea Party in real life.
