Karla Palmer, who until June had been a partner at McDermott Will & Emery and head of the litigation department in Washington, will start at boutique law firm Hyman, Phelps & McNamara Monday. Palmer will be a director, the equivalent of a partner.
Palmer said she worked for Hyman, Phelps as a paralegal before going to law school, and attended the firm's 30th anniversary party in March. "I've had a long relationship with Hyman, Phelps and I look forward to an opportunity to work for an outstanding niche boutique law firm," she said. The firm specializes in food and drug law.
Palmer, 45, a general litigator, said she will not be bringing clients to Hyman, Phelps, and will concentrate initially on Drug Enforcement Administration enforcement matters there. "They have an outstanding bench of clients that I'll get to serve," she said.
Palmer had been co-chair of national recruiting for McDermott Will & Emery.
