Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has scheduled a June 15 confirmation hearing for James Cole, nominated for deputy attorney general.
Leahy has previously said he wants to expedite Cole’s nomination for the Justice Department’s No. 2 position. The committee’s top Republican, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), has said that Cole’s record as a partner at Bryan Cave, including his work for American International Group Inc., needs to be “closely examined.”
President Barack Obama named Cole as his nominee May 21. Click here for Cole’s answers to a committee background questionnaire.
UPDATE (5:01 p.m.): Also, Cole puts his net worth at $7.1 million in a financial disclosure report he submitted to the committee.
