Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski has hired ICO Global Communications General Counsel John Flynn to serve as senior counsel to the chairman for transactions.
The number one item on Flynn’s plate: spearheading the FCC's review of the merger between Comcast Corp. and NBC Universal.
"I am delighted that John has joined our team to help drive the agency's review of this major proposed transaction," said Genachowski in a statement. "The FCC staff has been working hard to analyze all issues presented by the proposed merger, and John's legal expertise and broad experience will help to ensure that the commission’s review is thorough, fair, and efficient."
At ICO, Flynn led the team that took the company public, secured the company’s spectrum licenses, and won a $631 million jury verdict in 2008 against the Boeing Co. The case involved charges of breach of contract and fraud over the development of a satellite communications network.
From 2003 to 2006, he was counsel at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr. He also previously served as deputy general counsel of Commerce One, Inc., and as general counsel of rStar Broadband Networks, Inc.
He earned his law degree from Georgetown and went on to clerk for Justices Byron White and John Paul Stevens on the U.S. Supreme Court
