Kevin Wolf, a partner in the Washington office of Bryan Cave who raised money for President Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, is the president's pick for a top trade position.
The White House said late Thursday that Wolf will be nominated for assistant secretary of commerce for export administration. Among the office’s responsibilities is the oversight of export licensing. The office is within the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, whose head would be Winston & Strawn partner Eric Hirschhorn if the Senate confirms him.
Wolf joined Bryan Cave in 1993, and his practice focuses on international trade. According to his firm profile, he works on issues related to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, the Export Administration Regulations, and sanctions by the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
In the mid-1990s, he was an assistant special counsel to the House ethics committee, helping to investigate then-Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.). He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia and a law degree from the University of Minnesota. He did not return a call today requesting comment on his nomination.
Wolf held a fundraiser for Obama in June 2008 at his Arlington, Va., home, raising about $75,000, Wolf told Legal Times a few months afterward.
