John Gay, who headed government relations for the National Restaurant Association before parting ways with the group in April, is lobbying on immigration reform.
Last week Gay filed a lobbying registration on behalf of the National Association of Manufacturers. He also represents the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He'll be lobbying on comprehensive immigration reform for both groups, he said - though there isn't an immigration reform bill currently pending.
At the restaurant group, he said, immigration was an issue he personally lobbied on. He has also worked at the International Franchise Association and the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
Gay said he isn't planning on opening his own shop, and is instead taking on limited consulting jobs while he looks for his next full-time position. "I like it and might decide to launch a shop, but right now, what I'm focused on is short-term project work," he said.
