Goodbye Jobs: The New York Times reports that every state in the country is shedding jobs at an alarming rate except for a narrow band stretching from the Dakotas to Texas. Unlike past recessions, however, this one seems to be hitting blue-collar workers harder than college-educated workers.
Detroit Blues Again: In other bad economic news, the auto industry appears to be continuing its profit freefall. Politico reports that according to February industry reports, GM's monthly sales fell 53 percent from last year, and Chrysler's were down 44 percent. Could another bailout be on the way?
Have Lawyer, Will Travel: Laura Pendergest-Holt, the former chief investment officer of Stanford Financial Group and so far the only person charged with a crime in the billion-dollar fraud allegedly committed by the company, probably should have brought her own lawyer when she testified in front of the Securities Exchange Commission, experts say. Pendergest-Holt's only representation during her testimony, in which she is now accused of lying to SEC officials, was the company's attorney, a big mistake according to white collar defense lawyers, The American Lawyer reports via Law.com.
Oh, What a Knight: Queen Elizabeth II has chosen Sen. Edward Kennedy to receive an honorary knighthood, The Washington Post reports. While the honor would recognize Kennedy's "services to the U.S.-U.K. relationship and to Northern Ireland," he would not be known as Sir Ted as only British subjects may use the moniker.
Bravo for Sen. Ted Kennedy. One of the official knights of Camelot.
