Louis Freeh, former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is scheduled to headline a panel of witnesses who will testify next week on whether Eric Holder Jr. should be confirmed as attorney general.
Freeh will be joined by Chuck Canterbury, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, and John Payton, president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and a former partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr. All three support Holder's nomination. Republicans are expected to call two more witnesses for the panel but they haven’t said who they will be.
The partial witness list was released late Friday by the office of Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.). Former Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) will also speak, Leahy's office said.
The hearing is set to begin Thursday and is expected to last about two days. Warner and Holmes Norton will appear first, followed by Holder and then by the panel of witnesses.
