Charles "Chuck" Rosenberg, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, is stepping down after two years at his post, The Associated Press reports.
Rosenberg (Tufts, UVA Law) informed the president of his intentions in a Sept. 30 letter. His spokesman, Jim Rybicki, told the AP that Rosenberg's last day will be October 22. He hasn’t announced his future plans.
Rosenberg held several posts in Main Justice before he was confirmed in June 2006 as the Eastern District’s chief prosecutor, whose jurisdiction includes Alexandria, Newport News, Norfolk and Richmond.
He served as chief of staff to former Deputy Attorney General James Comey, counselor to former Attorney General John Ashcroft, and counsel to FBI Director Robert Mueller III. Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales named his as his interim chief of staff in March 2007. He replaced D. Kyle Sampson, who left the Justice Department amid the U.S. attorney firings scandal.
