J.A. “Lon” Bouknight Jr. rejoined Steptoe & Johnson’s D.C. office yesterday as head of the firm’s electric power practice after a three-year stint as executive vice president and general counsel of Edison International.
Bouknight, 64, was a partner for more than 10 years at Steptoe from 1994 until July 2005. He served six years as the firm’s chairman from 1998 until 2004.
Bouknight said he had worked for Edison as an outside lawyer for 20 years, during which time he formed a friendship with the the company's former CEO John Bryson. When Bryson retired on July 31, Bouknight and the Edison's new CEO, Ted Craver, thought it was the right time for Bouknight to make a “changeover.”
In 2005, Bouknight was named one of the Legal Times’ Leading Lawyers in energy. He also has chaired the antitrust and electricity committee of the American Bar Association’s section of public utility law.
