Georgetown University Law Center has a new student group called the Georgetown Law-Militia. The group’s mission is to foster “greater awareness of legal issues concerning the right to keep and bear arms and the human right of self-defense.”
At the Militia’s inaugural meeting this afternoon, attorney Alan Gura of Gura & Possessky spoke about his work as lead counsel for the plaintiffs in Parker v. D.C.- the case that successfully challenged the District’s handgun ban in March. Gura told a group of about 30 Law Center students that “the Second Amendment is really not all that mysterious.” He says he is confident the U.S. Supreme Court will decide to review the case, and that he is “looking forward” to arguing before the court.
The group’s president, third-year law student Mike Stollenwerk, is an active gun-rights advocate. He helped found a website called opencarry.org that maps out where in the U.S. people can carry unconcealed firearms legally, and at what age, and he was inspired to form the Militia by the gun ban case. Stollenwerk has a concealed handgun permit in Virginia, and a license to carry firearms in Pennsylvania. “What good is a gun if you can’t carry it?” he says.

Really? None of the pro-gun people I know have served in the military. I totally agree with the right to defend oneself, though not one's property, with violence, but I would like to hear where G. Kennedy got the assertion that most pro-gun people were in the military.

It's about time. Too many people have been hurt or killed because they have relied on cops alone to protect them. Case in point: http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_5717272,00.html
A woman relied on a restraining order, and because the police ignored it, her daughters died. And she can't sue the cops. Where's the justice now? Punish the innocent?

Never thought it would happen. Young law students and young attorneys considering pro-gun thoughts and actions. Don't let the politicians hear about your group. They will impose some type of tax penalty just to teach you a lesson. And, the bulk of them are also attorneys!
Most pro-gun individuals are law abiding and have served their country by wearing one of the uniforms of the U.S. Military. As one of these people, I thank you all for continuing a tradition and beliefs shared by the Founding Fathers of this great nation.
