The Washington Post's Reliable Source column today reported that Douglas Ginsburg (right), chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, is engaged to marry Washington writer Deecy Gray, who also happens to be the sister-in-law of D.C. powerhouse lawyer and ambassador C. Boyden Gray. All well and good so far. But in the print edition of the Post, the photo accompanying the item was of David Sentelle, a longtime colleague of Ginsburg's who, truth be told, does not look much like Ginsburg. We hear the photo mix-up has prompted much mirth and ribbing at the courthouse at the expense of the Post. For the record, Judge Sentelle has been married to his wife Jane for 42 years.
Footnote: Deecy Gray is vice president and a director of the Foundation for Research in Economics and the Environment (FREE), a group that has been the target of controversy for sponsoring expenses-paid seminars for federal judges and others that give a business perspective on environmental issues. In 2005, Ginsburg resigned from the same board after the Comunity Rights Counsel filed an ethics petition suggesting his membership "undermines public trust" in the judiciary. Asked about the new alliance today, Community Rights Counsel executive director Doug Kendall said, "I wish the happy couple all the best."
