Foley & Lardner is looking to expand in China. The firm announced today that it has filed an application with the Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China to open shop there. It appears Foley likes its odds in getting approval for the office since it has already hired Catherine Sun, who was a partner in Weil, Gotshal & Mange’s Shanghai office, where she led the firm’s intellectual property practice in China. She is licensed to practice in New York and will be assigned to the firm’s New York office during the license application process, but will be stationed in Shanghai. Sun will chair the Foley’s Asia practice.
