The leading trade group for the oil and natural gas industry has tapped the lobbying arm of McGuireWoods for help in Washington.
McGuireWoods Consulting is advocating for the American Petroleum Institute on offshore oil and natural gas exploration, liquefied natural gas exportation and the Renewable Fuel Standard program, according to lobbying registration paperwork filed with Congress on Friday. Former Representative L.F. Payne (D-Va.), president of McGuireWoods Consulting, is handling the account.
Payne wasn't immediately available for comment today.
The group spent $2.1 million on federal lobbying during the first quarter of this year, according to congressional records. For its government advocacy efforts then, the American Petroleum Institute used its own staffers, as well as lobbyists from GDS Strategies, Johnston & Associates, Mehlman Vogel Castagnetti and Ogilvy Government Relations. EOP Group, Michael Tiner and Christopher Heinz also were registered to lobby for the organization, but they didn't report any government advocacy work.
