An Ogilvy Government Relations lobbyist has landed in the public law and policy practice at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, the law firm announced on Tuesday.
Ryan Thompson, who had been a senior vice president at Ogilvy since February 2011, joined Akin Gump as a senior policy adviser, splitting his time between Washington and Austin, Texas. He specializes in technology, transportation, energy and defense matters.
"Akin Gump has an outstanding team of talent and a remarkable platform for serving its clients within the public policy areas where I focus - such as oil and gas and energy and environment," Thompson said in a written statement. "The firm's deep Texas roots and its tremendous diversity of practices were very appealing to me in making this move."
Before working at Ogilvy, Thompson served as the chief of staff to Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.)
"We are very pleased to have Ryan join our team, and we look forward to applying his experience and visibility for the benefit of our clients," Joel Jankowsky, senior executive partner in Akin Gump's public law and policy practice, said in a written statement. "Ryan's previous work on Capitol Hill and his recent consulting experience are an excellent match for our practice, and we are pleased to welcome him to the Akin Gump team."
