The former general counsel for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission will be joining Crowell & Moring as a partner in the firm's Washington office.
Cheryl Falvey will join the torts group and product risk management practice, effective October 1, according to a Crowell press release.
At the commission, Falvey advised on the passage and implementation of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, a consumer complaint database and port enforcement. Before joining the commission, she was a partner with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. During her previous tenure in private practice, she focused on consumer class actions, toxic and mass torts, trade secrets and intellectual property, among other issues.
"As both the CPSC general counsel and an accomplished toxic tort and environmental litigator, Cheri brings a distinct set of skills and perspective to our group," Clifford Zatz, partner and chair of the firm's tort group, said in a written statement. "Her tenure at the CPSC has been one of the most significant for any general counsel at that agency as she advised the agency on sweeping changes to their statutes that had an impact across diverse industry sectors."
