McDermott Will & Emery has added a partner to its energy advisory practice group, the firm announced Tuesday.
Alex Choinski, formerly with Baker Botts, is joining McDermott's Washington office. He focuses his practice on infrastructure projects and asset acquisitions in the fields of electric power, oil, gas, renewable energy, transportation and telecommunications.
In an interview, Choinski said that there has been a high demand for oil and gas, particularly overseas.
"There certainly has been a lot of activity in developing markets like Latin America," Choinski said. "There is a lot of money on the sidelines."
Choinski said that regional banks as well as Asian banks are increasingly showing interest in developing markets in Africa and Central and South America. One of the motivations for the move to McDermott, he said, was the firm's ability to service energy clients on the transactional, regulatory and litigation fronts.
