Former Rep. Michael Castle (R-Del.) has picked up a second lobbying client since leaving Congress last year for DLA Piper.
The law firm on Wednesday revealed to Congress that home equity protection provider EquityLock Solutions Inc. has joined Cape Wind Associates LLC on the lobbying roster of Castle, a DLA Piper partner who maintains an office in Washington. He and firm of counsel Timothy Hogan are advocating for EquityLock Solutions on "[r]egulatory issues regarding distressed assets," according to a lobbying registration filing. The Colorado-based company's main product, Home Price Protection, allows homeowners to recover value their houses lose from price declines in their local markets when they sell their homes.
EquityLock Solutions President Ted Rusinoff said DLA Piper is helping his company in its efforts to assist the U.S. government with the sale of formerly foreclosed homes held by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Housing Administration. He said DLA Piper had done legal work for EquityLock Solutions in the past, prompting his company to ask the firm for lobbying help.
Neither Castle nor Hogan could immediately be reached for comment.
EquityLock Solutions also uses Dutko Worldwide to lobby the federal government, according to congressional records. The government relations firm started to lobby for EquityLock Solutions this year. Dutko has received at least $50,000 from the company thus far.
