The former general counsel and vice president of Network Solutions has moved to Venable as a partner, the firm announced Monday.
Bobby Turnage joins the firm’s cyber security and e-commerce practices and will work out of the firm's Washington and Tysons Corner, Va. offices.
Turnage’s practice will run the gamut of internet business as he advises clients on domain name disputes, online advertising, data security and privacy, among others.
In 1999, Turnage joined Network Solutions, a domain name registration company, as corporate counsel and was promoted to general counsel in 2003. Before that, he was a prosecutor and a defense lawyer in the U.S. Army Reserve’s Judge Advocate General's Corps for eight years.
Turnage said he wants to use his experience as a problem solver to deliver “practical and business-focused legal advice” to clients.
“What I intend to do is take the legal principle and apply it to the business setting,” Turnage said in an interview.
He said the deep bench and the working relationship that he established with Venable attorneys like Stu Ingis, head of Venable’s D.C. office, were contributing factors in his decision to join the firm.
