A McGuireWoods Consulting vice president in Washington will leave the firm next month to join the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the trade group announced last week.
Louis Finkel will join GMA as executive vice president of government affairs on April 9, a year after he started at McGuireWoods. At McGuireWoods, Finkel focuses on matters that include food, health and energy in the firm's federal public affairs group. Pork producer Smithfield Foods Inc. and the National Restaurant Association were among his lobbying clients in 2011, according to congressional records.
Finkel said he wasn’t actively searching for a new job. But he said the trade group presented him with a “great opportunity.”
“I have nothing but good things to say about McGuireWoods,” Finkel said.
The lobbyist was a staffer on the House Science and Technology Committee under then-Chairman Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.) prior to coming to McGuireWoods. He served as the panel Democrats’ chief of staff from 2009 to 2011 and policy and outreach director from 2007 to 2009.
Finkel also was in the government relations office of Exxon Mobil Corp. in 2009 and a lobbyist at Lent Scrivner & Roth from 2001 to 2006.
