Report: Eleven DLA Piper Lobbyists Gave Money to Romney Campaign

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney counted more lobbyist donors last year from DLA Piper than any other organization, according to a First Street Research Group report released on Sunday.

DLA Piper accounts for 11 of Romney's lobbyist donors, the report shows. But DLA Piper spokesman Ted Loud contested the accuracy of the report, claiming only four of the 11 firm lobbyists are Romney donors. Of the contributors, DLA Piper partners Ignacio Sanchez and Thomas Boyd are the only major fundraisers, known as bundlers. Sanchez raised $86,700 and Boyd secured $26,350, according to 2011 fourth quarter filings.

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, Patton Boggs and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld are the only other law firms to make First Street’s list of organizations with the most lobbyists who donated to Romney in 2011.

With six, Brownstein claimed the third highest tally of lobbyists who gave money to Romney in 2011. Patton had four lobbyists who gave to Romney, and Akin had three.

First Street didn’t list an organization if the number of its Romney lobbyist donors was fewer than three. The research group also didn’t provide a similar list of organizations for other Republican presidential candidates. President Barack Obama prohibits registered lobbyists from making donations to his campaign and bundling for him.

Representatives of Brownstein and Patton couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. Akin spokesman Benjamin Harris declined to comment.
