Baltimore-based Miles & Stockbridge is opening a Washington office Feb. 15, the firm has announced.
Firm chairman John Frisch said the opening of the new office was driven by client demand. He said that since informing their clients of the new D.C. office, the firm has seen an increase in its transactional finance work.
“We’re starting out with some full-time lawyers from other offices and a lateral hire,” Frisch said. “We have seen a real uptick and continue a number of conversations with a couple of other laterals.”
The firm expects to grow its Washington office to between 15 and 20 full-time lawyers, Frisch said. Currently, the office has seven full-time and 11 part-time attorneys.
Frisch said establishing a Washington office was also part of the firm’s broader strategy to focus on a broad spectrum of practice areas. The firm primarily focuses on manufacturing, distribution, real estate and finance and capital markets.
John Stalfort, a principal and chair of the firm’s business department, said that the firm will take an active role in D.C.'s community, something engrained in the firm’s culture. Stalfort will act as the firm's managing principal in charge of the Washington office.
The addition of the Washington office brings the total number of Miles & Stockbridge offices to eight. Not counting the new D.C. office and another located in Tysons Corner, Va., the rest of the firm's offices are in Maryland.
