A Dickstein Shapiro partner has been named the next vice president and general counsel of WGL Holdings, Inc. and Washington Gas, the company announced Thursday.
Leslie Thornton will take over as vice president and general counsel for the public utility holding company at the beginning of next year, replacing Beverly Burke. She will join the company as counsel to the chairman beginning Nov. 28.
At Dickstein, Thornton focused her practice on Congressional investigations, litigation and government law and strategy, according to her firm profile. Prior to her tenure at Dickstein, Thornton was chief of staff to the Secretary of Education and a White House adviser to former President Bill Clinton.
“She has built a tremendously diverse career as a civil and criminal litigator, a senior executive and a corporate director,” WGL Holdings chairman and CEO Terry McCallister said in a statement. “Leslie is highly regarded in the legal community for her sound judgment, strategic thinking, leadership capability and collaborative style.”
