The National LGBT Bar Association named nine Washington-area attorneys among the best lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender lawyers under the age of 40.
The award, which is in its second year, is to recognize distinguished lawyers who have demonstrated a commitment to equality.
The Washington-area recipients include Paul Ainsworth, an associate at Covington & Burling; Mark Brennan, an associate at Hogan Lovells; Deborah Golden, staff attorney with Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs; Eva Juncker, partner at Zavos Juncker Law Group; David Knight, trial attorney, U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, disability rights section; Benjamin Mizer, senior counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice; Lisa Mottet, transgender civil rights project director at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force; Matthew Murphy, director for the Office of Equal Opportunity in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; and Brian Winterfeldt, a partner at Steptoe & Johnson.
The award winners will be recognized during the 2011 Lavender Law Conference hosted by the association Sept. 8-10 in Hollywood, Calif.
