The Judicial Nomination Commission has released the list of applicants for the three open spots on D.C. Superior Court, and it is a long one. Thirty-seven applicants, including eight magistrate judges, have thrown their hats in the ring for the vacancies created by the retirements of Judges Kaye Christian, Brook Hedge, and Judith Retchin.
From the list of applicants, the commission will submit the names of nine applicants to President Barack Obama, who will then nominate three individuals. The nominees must then be confirmed by the Senate.
To aid the public comment process, the commission created a Web-based “Applicant Evaluation Form” to facilitate the opportunity to provide comments on the applicants’ qualifications. Comments can also be submitted by visiting the commission’s website at jnc.dc.gov. All comments must be received by no later than Oct. 26.
