Robert McCarter III shares an office with 30 co-workers rather than 400 after moving from Arnold & Porter to Shook, Hardy & Bacon to further his work in global product liability.
McCarter, 37, joins the smaller Washington D.C. firm as partner and was one at Arnold & Porter for more than five years. A 13-year veteran of the bigger firm, he said that he will miss his former employer but looks forward to expanding his experience in trial work and getting to know his new office mates.
His practice focuses on general, product liability and appellate litigation, with recent trials covering tobacco, murder, and an racial discrimination case in which the client prevailed against the United States Department of Agriculture.
He has also done trial work involving the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and the Medicare Secondary Payer Act. In 2007, McCarter obtained the dismissal of claims seeking multiibillion dollars in damages and the affirmance of those decisions on appeal in the First and Eleventh Circuit, according to his online biography on Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s website.
McCarter said he expects his involvement with commercial cases to be one of his first orders of business.
