Thorn Run Partners has hired Gary Palmquist, a lobbyist for the National Federation of Independent Business, to work part-time for the firm. In an unusual arrangement, Palmquist will also continue working for the NFIB.
Andy Rosenberg, one of the founders of Thorn Run, said Palmquist will split his time between Washington and Los Angeles, giving the firm a beachhead in California. "We're finding that there are West Coast clients and potential clients that like the idea of having someone near them, physically near them, that has direct reach to Washington," Rosenberg said. The firm has a similar arrangement with Portland, Ore.-based lobbyist Dan Bates.
Palmquist, a former legislative director to Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-Calif.), said he wanted to return to California for personal reasons. "I think it will work out quite well," he said of his arrangement with Thorn Run and the NFIB. Rosenberg said he will be looking for new clients for Thorn Run in California.
