Washington-based Sher & Blackwell, an international transportation and government affairs boutique, has agreed to join Cozen O'Connor on Sept. 1, Cozen announced today. The addition of Sher & Blackwell will add six partners and nine other lawyers and government affairs professionals to Cozen's Washington office.
Sher & Blackwell advises clients on regulatory matters, antitrust, finance and transactional work, and government affairs. Its clients are primarily large and middle-market companies in the international and domestic maritime, intermodal transportation, offshore energy, and aviation industries.
The partners who are making the move are Mark Atwood, Marc Fink, Jeffrey Lawrence, Anne Mickey, Stanley Sher, and David Smith.
Thomas Decker, president and chief executive officer of Cozen, said that the addition of Sher & Blackwell has been in the works for about six months and is in keeping with the firm's strategy for the Washington office, which he said is a "key component of Cozen's growth in the future."
Decker said, "The group from Sher & Blackwell has a great reputation in the maritime and transportation world, and will be a great addition to our practice in those areas."
Marc Fink, Sher & Blackwell’s managing partner, said that after talking to a consultant, the partners at his former firm decided that joining a larger firm with a national presence would "allow us to provide our clients with a broader range of services than we could in the past."
Fink also said, "Joining Cozen will create opportunities that we were unlikely to duplicate if we were to grow organically. This is a great move for us and for our clients."
