Muftiah McCartin, former staff director of the House Committee on Rules, is now special counsel with Covington & Burling's government affairs practice.
In her three-decade career on the Hill, McCartin has also worked for the House Committee on Appropriations and the Office of the Parliamentarian. In a joint statement, Roderick De Arment and Martin Gold, the co-chairs of Covington's government affairs practice, cited McCartin's mastery of the legislative process. She "thoroughly understands the myriad dynamics involved in shepherding legislative initiatives through the House," they said.
McCartin, 54, started at Covington today. She said she expects to register to lobby, though she will be subject to a one-year cooling off period before she can lobby the Rules Committee. She chose Covington, she said, because “they’re one of the best law firms in the city”
