The National Football League has drafted Elmendorf Strategies.
The Democratic powerhouse will lobby for the league on issues related to contracts and collective bargaining. The NFL is currently locked in contentious discussions with the NFL Players Association over the players' contract. Both sides have been laying groundwork in Congress in case of a possible lockout next year.
Elmendorf Strategies joins an NFL lobbying roster that already included Covington & Burling, the Glover Park Group and Capitol Hill Strategies.
Jeff Miller, the NFL's lead in-house lobbyist, could not immediately be reached for comment, but lobbying disclosure paperwork shows that Elmendorf Strategies has been working for the league since May 1. The lobbyists on the contract include longtime Democratic strategist and former Hill aide Steve Elmendorf, the firm's founder, as well as James Ryan, a former aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
