DLA Piper has added Mary Langowski, formerly a senior public policy adviser at Alston & Bird, to its health care group.
Langowski's first day was Monday, said Thomas Boyd, the co-chair of DLA Piper's Regulatory and Government Affairs group. Boyd said Langowski will "help lead continued growth of the health care group" and will likely bring clients with her, but it isn't yet clear which ones. Langowski was not available for comment.
A former aide to Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Ia.), Langowski's client list at Alston & Bird included Novo Nordisk Inc., Des Moines University, Verizon Communications and Iowa Health System, lobbying disclosure records show. Boyd said she had worked with former Sen. Tom Daschle, who left Alston & Bird for DLA Piper last fall, and "she has a high regard for him and he has a high regard for her."
Langowski has a law degree from the University of Iowa, and Boyd said she will likely take the bar exam in February. Boyd said she has expertise in a number of health care policy areas, including health information technology and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. "All of those things were important to us," he said. Boyd said he also expects Langowski to advise clients on food and agriculture issues.
