The Senate Judiciary Committee has a little extra money to spend for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan's confirmation hearing.
A committee aide said today that $300,000 in additional funding has been approved to cover the costs of the hearing and anything else that comes up during the confirmation process. The amount will be split between the committee’s Democratic and Republican staffs to cover expenses like transcription, sign-language interpreters, stationary, TV rentals, and temporary staff to guide crowds of tourists.
The budge is half what was allocated a year ago for Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation hearing. The aide said some of last year’s budget went unspent.
