Powell Moore, a former government official who has held government positions in the executive and legislative branches, most recently with the Department of Defense, has joined Venable's government affairs practice as a senior adviser.
Until January 2009, Moore, 72, was the defense secretary's representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, stationed in Vienna. He held multiple posts in the Reagan administration, and is a former Senate staffer under former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), among others. He has lobbied in the past.
Moore said he took time off after returning from Vienna, and eventually chose to work at Venable because the firm's government relations practice is "strong," and he hopes to work with a wide range of clients on matters that include defense, foreign relations and energy. "I would welcome the chance to get involved in the energy debate," he said.
