Former O’Melveny & Myers partner Evelyn Becker is now the first pro bono director at the Children's Law Center.
Becker, 41, started at the center last month. She says that after 17 years of practicing employment law at O’Melveny & Myers’ Washington office, she was ready for a change.
“This is an opportunity to leverage the great talent pool that exists at law firms and in-house to help at-risk children in D.C,” she said.
The Washington-based center employs roughly 50 full-time lawyers and has pro bono relationships with more than 70 law firms in the D.C. area. The center’s pro bono lawyers spend much of their time representing children in child custody cases and potential parents in adoption cases.
Becker has experience working on pro bono matters from her time at O’Melveny & Myers. She was also attracted to the position because of her experience as a preschool and kindergarten teacher during her college summers at a private school in Houston.
