Dick Thompson, a former top executive for Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., has joined the Washington office of Patton Boggs as senior counsel.
Thompson retired in December as senior vice president for policy and government affairs for the pharmaceutical company after heading its Washington office for 26 years.
In a statement, Patton Boggs said Thompson will work on health and pharmaceutical policy issues. The firm also said his hiring would "strengthen its hand" in those sectors.
Thompson said he was a Patton Boggs client for his entire time at Bristol-Myers Squibb, and knows the firm well. "It's a wonderful organization," he said. "I'm very flattered and honored to be here."
Thompson said he hopes to also work on intellectual property, tax and some environmental issues for clients.
