Former Sonnenschein Nath
& Rosenthal partner David Jacobson was confirmed by the Senate as U.S.
ambassador to Canada yesterday, the firm announced today.
Jacobson spent 30 years practicing law at Sonnenschein in Chicago before joining then-presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign team as deputy finance chair.
Obama nominated him for the ambassadorship in June and the BLT wrote about his
nomination here. Jacobson bundled as much as
$100,000 for Obama in addition to personally donating $4,507 during the campaign, according to the Center for
Responsive Politics.
Most recently, Jacobson had been serving at the White House as special
assistant to the president in the Office of Presidential Personnel.
At Sonnenschein, Jacobson focused on commercial, class action, securities,
insurance, and business litigation. Though he grew up in the suburbs of
Chicago, he came to Washington for law school, earning his J.D. From Georgetown
University Law Center.
