Obama administration official joins the Podesta Group
Oscar Ramirez, a Labor Department official and Obama campaign worker, has joined the Podesta Group.
Ramirez, 34, was most recently special assistant to Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, and served as her chief of staff while she was in the House. He was the Obama campaign's policy director in Virginia.
Ramirez said he decided to jump to lobbying because he wanted to continue working on political campaigns, especially in his native Maryland. The new job "gives me the time and flexibility. Political work isn’t an
impediment to the work I’m doing here," he said.
He said he plans to concentrate on financial services clients, citing his experience as an aide to Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) and Rep. Joe Baca (D-Calif.), both members of the House Financial Services Committee.
Ramirez, who will be a principal at the firm, will be subject to a ban that prevents former Obama administration officials from lobbying the administration.
