More than 1,100 law professors have signed a letter supporting the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
The letter, released today and sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee, praises the quality of Sotomayor's opinions on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and her résumé, including her membership on the board of what was then the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund. “Judge Sotomayor will bring to the Supreme Court an extraordinary personal story, academic qualifications, remarkable professional accomplishments and much needed ethnic and gender diversity,” the letter reads.
Many of the names — such as Erwin Chermerinsky of UC Irvine and Pamela Karlan of Stanford — will not come as a surprise because of their liberal reputations. Columbia Law School said in a news release that many professors helped gather the signatures.
Sotomayor’s confirmation hearing is set to begin Monday at 10 a.m.
UPDATE: The liberal Alliance for Justice has also helped gather the signatures, according an online request form. (Hat tip: Jonathan H. Adler)

It sounds to me as if 1,100 law professors are not exactly "strict constructionists".

Should the story also mention that it was distributed and organized by the Alliance for Justice?

How come this story does not mention who released the letter?
