Virginia Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner are recommending Virginia Supreme Court Justice Barbara Keenan for a vacancy on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
Keenan, 59, who has served on Virginia’s highest court since 1991, would be the first female judge from Virginia to serve on the federal appeals court, which is based in Richmond.
Webb and Warner reviewed recommendations from bar associations and interviewed several candidates. Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld partner Patricia Millett, who co-chairs the firm’s Supreme Court practice, garnered support from bar associations in Virginia.
“Justice Keenan has received the highest ratings from leading bar associations, and I know that, if confirmed, she will continue her distinguished record of service in this new capacity,” Webb said in a statement. Warner called Keenan highly qualified to serve on the appellate bench.

She is indeed highly qualified and will make an excellent addition to the court. Hard to see why any sensible folks would oppose her nomination.
