Have you voted in the D.C. Bar elections yet? Ballots are due by Friday, June 5.
The election will select successors for the bar’s president-elect, secretary, treasurer, and five slots on the board of governors. D.C. Bar members are also voting on delegates to the American Bar Association House of Delegates.
Competing for the top job are Alfred Belcuore, managing partner of Montedonico, Belcuore & Tazzara, and Ronald Flagg, a partner at Sidley Austin. The term for the president runs three years: one as president-elect, one as president, one as immediate past president. Kim Keenan of the Keenan Firm was elected last year to succeed current bar president Robert Spagnoletti, a partner at Schertler & Onorato.
The board members also hold office for three years. The secretary and treasurer hold office for one year. ABA delegates serve two years.
Voters can cast their ballots either by mailing them in or voting online. The new officers will take office at the bar’s annual business meeting on June 25.

Upon reviewing the statements of both Messrs. Belcuore and Flagg about their candidacies I was struck by two things. One was that both said they want to help provide legal services to people who can't afford legal fees. Mr. Flagg has much experience about that; I was disappointed Mr. Belcuore didn't offer anything about how he would help in that area. Two, I guess many lawyers endorse each candidate, but I wonder how clients would rate each of them. Is there a forum where these concerns can be addressed?
