A week after news of impending layoffs at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman broke when corporate and securities head Robert Robbins was overheard having a cell phone conversation on an Acela train, the legal gossip blog Above the Law is reporting the firm has sent a memo announcing a voluntary departure plan.
The memo, which appears on Above the Law, says associates, senior associates, and counsel may choose to leave the firm and accept a severance package of, "among other things," three months’ salary. The memo reads that the voluntary reductions "will not obviate the need for an involuntary reduction in force, which we expect to implement" in early March.
A firm spokesperson responded via e-mail to Legal Times' inquiry regarding the authenticity of the memo saying "we don't have anything to say regarding the post on ATL."
