Two Southern-based law firms, Bradley Arant Rose & White and Boult, Cummings, Conners & Berry, will merge Jan. 1 to form Bradley Arant Boult Cummings. The new firm will be based out of Birmingham, Ala., with seven other offices in Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C.
Bradley Arant, the larger firm, currently has six offices--in Birmingham, Huntsville, Ala., Montgomery, Ala., Jackson, Miss., Charlotte, N.C., and Washington, D.C. There are 11 lawyers in the D.C. office. Boult, Cummings has one office located in Nashville, Tenn.
The combined firm will start off with more than 350 lawyers. “Further growth is on the way,” says Jay Hardcastle, the managing partner for Boult Cummings, in a statement. “We are confident that we will attract top-tier attorneys who will see an energetic platform from which to grow their practices.”
John Grenier, the managing partner of Bradley Arant, will be the managing partner of the new firm.
UPDATE (4:37): Grenier says, "The Washington, D.C., office will be one of the key components of the new firm's geographic footprint. We're going to look to expand there in our health care, IP, and construction areas. It's focused heavily on the regulatory areas."
Grenier adds that, as of now, there are no plans to transfer lawyers from Boult, Cummings into the new firm's D.C. office.
